Need help with recoloring hair..?

A little over a month ago I used perfect 10 medium ash brown on my hair. It faded quickly and I didn’t really like the color (very dull). I just bought Revlon Colorsilk dark brown dye. On the instructions it says if you’re recoloring hair then apply to roots only and then apply to the rest of the hair for the last 5 minutes. Should I do this? My gut instinct is to apply it all over for the full amount of time.

If you are changing your color, you apply all over for the full time. The roots only/last 5 rule is if you are refreshing the same color only.
