Revlon Burgundy Hair Color

Hair not light enough for the color of burgundy I want…suggestions?

I want to dye my hair with Revlon, the burgundy shade, but with my current hair color it is probably going to be darker than I want it. Should I use some blondish color first and then dye it, and if so how long should I wait between dyes?
I just want to go down a level or two in hair darkness. Nothing blonde-like.
