best place to get makeup done?

so i have pictures coming up and everyone knows that when you get professional pictures done your makeup doesnt look as good as you think it does at home.
i have been to the clinique counter a few times for homecoming and weddings and stuff. and i particularly dont like them. they tend to over do it even though i tell them i dont want something too drastic.
i dont want anything too drastic but i want it to look good and bring out my features.
i currently wear bareminerals so i dont know where to go to get makeup done.
i have come to either MAC, Sephora, or Lancome.
i am open to other options but those are the three that i have seen the best come from. what and where should i go?? what should i ask them to do?? thanks.
