The greatest haircut of my life

I have to write this review about a new salon I have discovered in Grosvenor Street, in Mayfair London. You often hear about a hair salon or hairdresser and either don’t catch their name or are not offered their name or if you are it turns out disastrous!

This guy however is the real deal! I read a review that said he has been nominated as one of the best hairdressers in London by US Vogue. Now that is a big tag to live up to, however my take was that even if he is only half as good as the article says that would be twice as good as I have had so far! I seem to always get the hairdresser who is having a bad day or whose boyfriend has just left them.

Well I just lucked out, big time.  Firstly he is straight and handsome at the same time, he listened to what I had to say however he also made constructive comments that were really helpful and gave me some great advice, surprisingly instead of suggesting cutting my hair off he confounded me by suggesting we grow it (note the ‘we’ a first for me suggesting a partnership) not to have a fringe for the right reasons. He told me how and when to shampoo my hair, although they have 9 brands of hair care he recommended Redken,  as this was exactly what my hair needed, ( I could have had Wella, L’Oreal, Kerastase, or Philip Kingsley, Paul Mitchell or Sebastian.  His colour advice was also spot on he suggested some colour ( they use both Wella and L’Oreal) in various hues, not too fine and not too much contrast either, also not to even front to back, I liked this idea so much I booked the colourist on leaving the salon.

Who is this guy and where is his salon? His name is Martyn Maxey and his salon is Martyn Maxey Hair & Beauty in Grosvenor Street, London W1 K 4 QQ. They also do the whole beauty thing and I spent some time just asking some questions of the beauty therapist who gave me some really good advice on my skin and some brilliant skin tips (all free, for once in my life), once again they have a good choice of professional skincare brands including Md Formulations, Dermalogica, Elemis, Thalgo, Guinot, Skinceuticals and Elizabeth Arden.  I trusted this hairdresser so much I actually would have let him cut my hair off, he gave me a great shape to my hair, it’s easy to care for and he gave me two ways to dry it and offered to show me how to put my hair up next time, all part of the great service. I paid the bill (surprisingly good value at £159, I booked the colourist for next week and left feeling a million dollars, skipping off to Bond Street to  go shopping. I had discovered the world’s biggest secret ‘quality hairdressing’, for once it was the real deal.

I even feel good about recommending my friends, now that really is a first.
